Moving to an eSIM is convenient, but the activation process requires a few specific conditions to be met. If you are seeing errors like "eSIM cannot be added" or "QR Code no longer valid," follow this guide to get connected.
1. Essential Pre-Flight Check
Before scanning your QR code, ensure these two "hidden" requirements are met:
Stable Wi-Fi Connection: An eSIM isn't just a code; itβs a profile that must be downloaded from our servers. If your phone is on a weak data connection or "Edge," the download will fail. Always connect to a strong Wi-Fi network before starting.
Device Compatibility Check: Not all smartphones support eSIM technology. Before attempting setup, ensure your specific model is on our Supported Device List and is confirmed to be eSIM compatible.
2. Common Error Messages & Fixes
β Error: "eSIM Cannot Be Added" / "Unable to Complete Cellular Plan Change"
Cause: Usually a temporary timeout or a conflict with an existing profile.
Fix: Restart your phone and try scanning again while on Wi-Fi. If you previously tried to add the same eSIM and failed, check your "Cellular/Mobile Data" settingsβif a "Blank" or "Installing" line is there, delete it before trying again.
β Error: "QR Code No Longer Valid"
Cause: eSIM QR codes are single-use for security. If the download was interrupted or if you accidentally deleted the eSIM profile after it was installed, the old QR code will be "burned" and cannot be reused.
3. How to Regenerate a New QR Code
If your code is invalid or youβve switched to a new phone, you can generate a fresh one instantly via your dashboard.
Login: Go to app.onsim.uk.
Locate Service: Go to the Services tab and find the specific mobile number/SIM you are trying to activate.
Find eSIM Details: Click into the service details.
Regenerate: Look for the eSIM QR Code section. There will be an option to "Regenerate" or "Get New QR Code."
-
Scan: A fresh QR code will appear on your screen. Scan this immediately using your phone's camera or eSIM settings.
