Call diversion (or call forwarding) allows you to redirect incoming calls to a different phone number. While it offers great flexibility, there are specific rules regarding which numbers you can and cannot use for this service.
Allowed Numbers
You can divert your calls to most standard UK numbers. These include:
UK Landlines: Numbers starting with 01 or 02 (e.g., 0161, 020).
UK Mobiles: Standard mobile numbers starting with 07 (e.g., 07700).
UK Non-Geographic (Standard Rate): Numbers starting with 03, which are charged at the same rate as landlines.
Restricted Numbers
To protect you from high unexpected costs, diversions to the following types of numbers are not permitted:
International Numbers: You cannot divert calls to any number outside of the UK (any number starting with 00 or + followed by a non-UK country code).
Premium Rate Services: Numbers starting with 09 (often used for competitions, chat lines, or specialist advice).
High-Cost Service Numbers: Numbers starting with 084 or 087.
Directory Enquiries: Any number starting with 118.
