How do I withhold my number?
Temporarily: Withholding your number can be done on a call by call basis by dialling *67 followed by the number that you wish to call.
Permanently: To permanently withhold your number for all calls, please email our support team to request this (support@onsim.uk)
What does it do?
In some cases you might want to not display your caller ID number to the person you are calling. By withholding your number, the party you are dialling will see 'UNKNOWN', 'NO CALLER ID' or 'WITHHELD' on their screen instead of your primary caller ID.
Why would you want to withhold your number?
Withholding your number is useful if you are trying to reach someone and do not wish for them to be able to call you back or if you believe someone is not answering your calls on purpose. It is used by many businesses for chasing debtors and credit control.
Important Notes
- When withholding your number it is common that many users will not pick up a call from an unknown number as a matter of principle.
- If you use this feature in an abusive manner the calls can be easily traced back to you so please refrain from using it to harass others.
NOTE: We take abuse of our platform and the privacy of others extremely seriously and as such, impose strict sanctions on anyone found to break our terms of service. If your calls are found to be abusive in any way you may be liable for prosecution and we reserve the right to terminate your service if we find that the service is being used in this way.
What could I try instead?
If you are looking to make calls and fear that the recipient might be purposely avoiding answering your calls, we can always provide you with an additional generic number. You can then switch to this number which the recipient will not recognise to make your calls. Please note that this option would not be able to be done on a call by call basis and we would need to amend the outbound caller ID to this other number and then change it back for you manually. The cost of each additional number is £1 + VAT per month.
Please contact support@onsim.uk if you would like more information on withholding your number and the implications of doing so.
